Tennis South Canterbury works with several local coaches who are TNZ Registered.  These coaches work closely together and have a high level of respect for each other. Kane, Mark, Rachel, and Murray are very experienced across all levels and have many years of coaching behind them.

South Canterbury Coach

Kane Newland

Kane Newland works full-time and is based at the South Canterbury Tennis Centre, with Rachel, and Mark coaches at our largest club – Highfield. Kane coached the New Zealand 12’s Boys team in December 2013. They are all busy delivering quality coaching throughout the whole year to local players. Club Coaching

Tennis South Canterbury will liaise with clubs in August-September to find out what coach support clubs will need for the 2016/17 season.  Clubs have the option to organise their own coaches and run their own programme or to use Tennis South Canterbury Coaches.

Coaching in Schools

Tennis South Canterbury 2016 Tennis Hot Shots in Schools Programme

Tennis South Canterbury has delivered the “Tennis in Schools” Programme in the region for several years. This has now become Tennis Hot Shots, a Tennis NZ programme.  Each year the programme continues to grow and last year over 20 000 children took part in the “Tennis in Schools” Programme.

The delivery of the programme is driven by Tennis NZ and Tennis South Canterbury with the aim of providing a consistent level of service that remains relevant and enjoyable to the children of South Canterbury.  The aim of conducting the Tennis Hot Shots Programme in schools is to:

  • Introduce children to tennis being a sport option as a game for life.
  • Attract children to their local community tennis club by providing a direct link between the schools programme, Community play and the local clubs coaching programme.
  • Develop fundamental skills and support the principals of Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD).

The Schools Programme is partly funded by Tennis South Canterbury and Sport Canterbury, which means we can deliver this programme at a cost of only $1 per student/per lesson.  This programme is offered to all children in years 3, 4, 5 and 6.

The THS in Schools Programme will be delivered in Term 3 and 4. If you'd like more information please contact:
